From the moment he laid eyes on the piece of land in front of him, the legendary Arnold Palmer exclaimed that it had the potential to be something very special. Aside from its stunning beauty, Rivers Edge has become one of the most spectacular golf courses that you’ll ever play.
Six holes in the Kings Backyard, Rivers Edge, sit high atop bluffs that overlook two miles of scenic marshlands, they give the impression that they have been carved out of the natural twists and turns of the tranquil Shallotte River. The interior holes are equally beautiful with subtle elevations, good bunkering and freshwater lakes.
A standout hole on the golf course is the 570 yard (back tees) par five ninth hole. This beauty is guarded by marsh down the entire left side of the fairway and marsh to carry on your approach to the narrow green which is bulkheaded into the marsh, it is a really good golf hole and features quite the challenge.
Rivers Edge features Paspalum grass greens which is a rarity in the area. This strain of grass is very resilient and the greens are always in great condition. Golf Magazine ranked Rivers Edge among “Top New Courses You Can Play” in 2000 and in 2008 and 2010 ranked it among “The Best Courses Near You.”
