Beautifully located some twenty miles south of central Myrtle Beach is the tranquil and enchanting Pawleys Island. To this day Pawleys is regarded as one of the oldest and finest summer resorts along the East Coast. A very narrow island, it was first settled in the early 1700’s by families of rice planters who owned plantations on the nearby rivers. 
Every May these families made the annual trek to the Ocean and remained there for the entire summer. This charming and mesmerizing barrier island is less than 4 miles long and is separated from the mainland by a gorgeous saltwater marsh that is easily accessible by two short causeways. Signage shares a brief history of the grand antebellum homes in the historic district, with a dozen of them dating back to the late 1700’s and mid 1800’s. To this day, folks from all over the nation and abroad flock to this historic Grand Strand Island to continue in the tradition of spending summer by the sea.
Although soft coastal breezes have changed the face of Pawleys Island, it remains scruffy, captivating and tastefully elegant. As you wander around the island, you will notice a surprising variety of shapes and sizes of attractive beach homes, most of which are available for summer rental. Pawleys is well known for its laid-back southern lifestyle and family beach where you can enjoy golfing, crabbing, shelling, biking, kayaking, fishing and daunting ghost stories; not to mention some of the finest golf courses on the South Carolina Coast. In actual fact, within five miles of this glorious seaside paradise, there are ten world-class golf courses that the public can have access to; Caledonia Golf and Fish Club, Founders Club, Heritage Club, Litchfield Country Club, Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club, River Club, Tradition Golf Club, True Blue Plantation, Wachesaw East and Willbrook Plantation.
