Our Golf Specialists
Jerry McGraw
Originally from Long Island, NY. Jerry McGraw is a very genuine and likeable man that has never met a stranger. He moved to the Carolina’s in the seventies to attend Campbell University, where he earned a BSC in Psychology with a major in Professional Golf Management. McGaw then moved to Wilmington where he held several positions from 1st Assistant to Head Golf Professional to General Manager at various Country Clubs in the Wilmington area.
A life member of the PGA, McGraw has helped golfers of all skill levels hone their craft. He even did a small stint as a caddy for LPGA golfer and good friend Cathy Johnston-Forbes when she competed on the LPGA.
In 1986 he established Coastal Golfaway, a company that specializes in golf vacation packages. Jerry McGraw knows “Myrtle Beach Golf” like the back of his hand and has brought golfers from all over the globe to play in Myrtle Beach. An accomplished player, be careful when placing a wager against him on the links, he can still boom it off the tee and can flag it at any given time. His handicap? “Scratch. Remember, McGraw is a professional golfer.”
Chase McGraw
I grew up in the golf business—my dad worked at golf courses, owned a driving range, and eventually started Coastal Golfaway. In college I majored in accounting thinking I’d go into tax, but figured helping people book golf trips is a little more fun.
I started out as a cart guy at a few local clubs, including Country Club of Landfall and Cape Fear National. In college, I began caddying at Kiawah Island Club.
I’ve been a competitive golfer since high school, though these days I only pose a major threat at member-guests. I was once a scratch golfer, but the yips have turned me into a solid 5.
Professionally, I’m a member of IAGTO and a former board member of Golf Tourism Solutions in Myrtle Beach.
One thing that separates me from a lot of golf packagers is that I don’t just know the courses and lodging—I actually go on the trips. Each year I host the “Chaz Invitational,” which gives me real insight to help group leaders plan theirs. Between my dad and me, there’s likely nothing we haven’t seen go right or wrong on a golf trip, so please reach out with any questions.
Carl Beaman
Carl Beaman is the newest member of the Coastal Golfaway Family. Hailing from Kinston, NC ; a former ECU Pirate golfer comes to us with a wealth of golf knowledge.
Serving as the Head Golf Professional at Falling Creek Golf Club for 21 years has prepared Carl to handle any experience you could desire as far as a golf getaway. Known as our Golf Director on the road Carl can handle any of your needs and will even come calling in person if you so desire “continental USA of course.”
Give us a call and ask for “BEE-MAN” as Jerry says it!
John Venters
Originally from “above” the Mason-Dixon Line, John has lived in historic Wilmington, NC (the family home) for over 50 years. Thirty four of those were spent travelling the Carolinas as a golf manufacturer’s representative, starting back when the “Grand Strand” consisted of fewer than twenty golf courses! Along with his father and brother, the Venters’ represented several well known golf companies in the Carolinas and Virginia, for over 30 years.
Throughout his years with Coastal Golfaway, he has made many new friends from all over the world, and maintained the great relationships established with the golf courses and professional staffs he worked so closely with during his days on the road.
With knowledge acquired from over four decades of Azalea Coast/Grand Strand golf experience, “nobody knows the beach better”!
